On a lovely afternoon when you fancy a cuppa and a piece of lemon drizzle cake, there's no better place than Stoneleigh Abbey and I get to see my nephew too. He was very busy and delighted that plenty of visitors were enjoying the History and Jane Austen tours, walking round the grounds and visiting the Orangery.
“I'd like to do a Blog” said Dave (my nephew) “but I haven't the time”. So I offered, after all how hard can it be? Three attempts later and long periods of time spent staring at a blank screen, believe me it's not as easy as you think!
I'm going to keep this first one simple and just tell you what’s coming up at the Abbey. On Sunday, from 10 - 5, it’s the Family Fun Day and Craft Fair at the Riding School with lots of activities, face painting, competitions, a bouncy castle and Birds of a Feather with their stunning displays will be there.
Stoneleigh is proud of it's links to Jane Austen and next Tuesday, 18th July they are commemorating the bicentenary of her death with a day of celebration. Come along to one of the tours to hear about her life and links to the Abbey. There has been a lot of interest so it may be advisable to book.
I spent too long chatting to Dave, they'd sold out of lemon drizzle cake but the toffee cake was just as good. It was so relaxing sitting down by the river and even the geese are laid back!
