Tour Times and Information
Tours usually last about an hour and a quarter. Our guides are always learning about the Abbey so every tour is different, not scripted and is adapted to suit the audience. Please let us know if you have a specific interest so that we can select the guide best qualified for your tour. Guides take a maximum of 25 people on tour. Large groups will be split for your ease and comfort inside the house.

Group tours can be booked outside of the times listed. Jane Austen and Dark Deeds tours can be requested for different days but need to be booked in advance.

Themed Tours
West Wing Abbey History Tour – 11am,1pm & 3pm
From medieval monks to Victorian gentry, this tour covers 800 years of history and the events that have transformed a Cistercian Abbey into a stately home.

Jane Austen Tour – Wednesdays & Sundays 1pm
Your guide in period costume will cover the history of the house, putting more emphasis on Jane Austen’s visit in 1806 and the impact that it made upon her writing.

Dark Deeds Tour – every fourth Tuesday in the month 1pm
Take a trip to the dark side of the Abbey's past with tales of murder, mystery and mayhem. Dressed in her widows garb your guide will tell you the tales that you don't normally hear and reveal some of the shadowy secrets surrounding the Leigh family who lived at the Abbey for more than 400 years. Please note: descriptions in this tour do include murder and death which you may feel are not suitable topics for children under 12 years.

Humphry Repton Tour – (pre-arranged group bookings only)
Repton was a famous landscape designer who made his mark at Stoneleigh in the early 1800s. With all the new planting coming into bloom this is a delightful tour to take in the sunny months between June and September as the tour takes place outside.

Through The Keyhole Tours
The Jacobean House and the Medieval Undercroft are open to the public at 1pm and 3pm on specific days of the year and are viewed as part of the General History Tour. Please see our main leaflet for more details and telephone or check our website for the dates.

Advance Booking
We do request that all groups are pre-booked. Pre-booked groups enjoy the benefit of the reduced group rates as shown. Booking is simple. Please either e-mail us at or call us on 01926 858535.

Planning Your Visit
We suggest a minimum of two hours for a group visit, when time is limited. The average length of time spent by visitors to the Abbey is three hours. This allows for a guided tour, some refreshments and a walk around the gardens and stables. Please note that the Abbey’s state rooms may only be viewed by guided tour.

Guide Books
A full colour souvenir guide book is available giving a detailed history of the Abbey at £2.95. We offer a discounted price for multiple copies ordered in advance – £50.00 for 20 copies, making a saving of £9.00. These will be ready for collection on your group’s arrival.

Only assistance dogs are allowed in the Abbey.
Baby changing facilities are available.
There is a First Aid trained member of staff on duty.
